Who we are looking for:

We are currently looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to take our brands to the next level. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be deployed in our Engineering Department for the development of new products to expand our Product Portfolio and maintain our existing products in close cooperation with our Product Engineers.

The ideal candidate will have a technical background with strong affinity for sheetmetal design and has a good understanding of most common metalworking production techniques. The Mechanical Design Engineer has a good understanding of the relationship between product design, manufacturing and product cost. As we want to stand out from the competition and bring added value to our products, an innovative mindset with focus on the customer’s needs is a major plus.

What you’ll do:

  • Preliminary and detailed design of new Cable Management products to extend our existing portfolio.
  • Maintain existing products within our portfolio – Revision Change management.
  • Preparing the necessary documents when launching new products or processes
  • Developing manufacturing tools ( e.g. jigs, handling tools, … ) and packaging proposals
  • Requesting prototype quotations and coordinates availability of prototypes; maintains a close work-relationship with key suppliers
  • Set up and monitoring R&D project schedules
  • Have a close interaction with the colleagues from the shopfloor
  • Take accountability in your role as a R&D project owner

What you’ll bring:

  • Knowledge of metalworking techniques: bending- and punching machinery, profiling lines
  • Expertise in AutoCAD/Inventor/CAD drawing is a necessity
  • You have a relevant technical education and a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar function within the industrial sector
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office
  • Problem-solving skills are a plus

Within 3 months, you’ll:

  • Complete your Atkore immersion program.
  • Become a true team member of the R&D department
  • Participate in the Product Development Status Update meetings
  • Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore’s strategy.
  • Gain and understanding of our products through training and customer feedback/experience

Within 6 months, you’ll:

  • Understand the cross-functional workflow from our company
  • Have a good understanding of our product portfolio
  • Have a good understanding of our production capabilities
  • Be able to develop products according our standards with support from your R&D colleagues
  • Participate in internal brainstorm sessions
  • Be able to take ownership of small R&D projects
  • Identify ways to strengthen customer relationships to Atkore’s core values of Accountability, Teamwork, Integrity, Respect and Excellence.

Within 12 months, you’ll:

  • Be able to develop independently
  • Be able to take ownership of bigger R&D projects
